ABSTRACT
Article history: Aim: To compare the difference between viral encephalitis patients complicated with epilepsy

Accepted: 10-05-2017 viral encephalitis patients admitted to the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University

Key words: surveying the Hospital Information System, the authors collected their clinical data including
Viral encephalitis, general situations, medical history, physical examination, clinical presentation, laboratory
epilepsy, examination, cerebrospinal fluid examination, imaging examination, electroencephalogram
treatment, examination (EEG), treatment, and discharge conditions. The authors used SPSS for further
clinical characteristics analysis and statistics. Results: Medical history: there were significant differences between the
two groups in disturbance of consciousness, cognitive dysfunction, and admission conditions
(P < 0.05). No significant differences were found in other clinical manifestations. Auxiliary
examination: in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) examination, the patients with epilepsy had higher
glucose (P < 0.05). Brain imaging examination shows that cortical involvements in patients
with epilepsy were higher (P < 0.05), and EEG examination showed that patients with
epilepsy were more severe (P < 0.05). No significant differences were found in other auxiliary
