Prof. Luigi Schips is a distinguished Italian urologist
renowned for his expertise in minimally invasive surgical
techniques, particularly in laparoscopic and robotic procedures.
He currently serves as a Full Professor of Urology at the
University of Gabriele d'Annunzio in Chieti-Pescara, Italy, where he also directs the School of
Specialization in Urology.
In addition to his academic roles, Prof. Schips is the Director of the Urology Clinic at the "SS.
Annunziata" Hospital in Chieti, Italy, and leads the Urology Department for the ASL Lanciano
Vasto Chieti health authority. His clinical focus encompasses the treatment of both benign and
malignant conditions of the kidney and adrenal glands, utilizing advanced laparoscopic and
robotic techniques. Notably, he pioneered the single-port laparoscopic approach in Italy and
Europe, performing the country's first nephrectomy using this method and Europe's first single-
port adrenalectomy.
Prof. Schips has an extensive publication record, with over 150 peer-reviewed articles, and his
research group actively contributes to national and international conferences. His contributions to
the field have been recognized with several awards, including the PaLiNUro Prize, which
honors excellence in patient care and professional competence.
His dedication to advancing urological surgery and commitment to patient-centered care have
solidified his reputation as a leading figure in the field.
