Special Issue introduction:
Currently, “precision surgery” is becoming the new paradigm: its goal is to unify
and maximize oncological efficacy and improve patients’ quality of life and function.
In the last years, the evolution of robotic surgery and the consequent minimization of
surgical morbidity and hospitalization have deeply changed the therapeutic approach
to prostate cancer (PCa). The current focus is to reach a “tailored” approach,
which considers every patient-specific variable in order to obtain optimal urinary
continence and erectile function after the intervention.
Therefore, thanks to robotics, nowadays, the surgical approach expanded
its indication even in more complex diseases, for example, in patients after
adenomectomy or focal therapy.
Moreover, several new tools have been introduced to optimize surgical planning, aid
surgical navigation, and refine surgical act.
In this special issue on Robot-Assisted-Radical-Prostatectomy (RARP), several
experts will report their experience in different surgical settings with different
techniques (such as Retzius sparing or single port), giving readers a snapshot of the
current state and the future of robotic radical prostatectomy.
