In Pittsburgh, he also completed a one-year combined orthopedic/plastic surgery
fellowship focusing on upper extremity surgery. Further pursuing his clinical
expertise, Dr. Sacks completed a one-year microvascular reconstructive surgery
fellowship in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas M.D.
Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. After completing the fellowship, he was
invited to join the faculty and remained there for three years. His research focuses on
advancements in vascularized composite allotransplantation, tissue engineering, and
vascular perfusion assessment. Clinically, his interests include the reconstruction of
all forms of acquired, oncological, and traumatic defects, ranging from the head and
neck to the breast, chest, abdomen, pelvis, and extremities.
Special Issue Introduction:
Plastic surgeons, recognized as pioneers and early adopters of new technologies,
consistently find themselves at the vanguard of emerging medical innovations,
seamlessly incorporating novel technologies into their practices. Against the
backdrop of the continuous evolution of AI technologies, it has become imperative
for surgeons to exhibit adaptability and readiness, assimilating these digital
systems into their daily workflows. This Special Issue is dedicated to delving
into the profound impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the landscape of plastic
and reconstructive surgery, aiming to illustrate the seamless integration of AI
technologies that elevate surgical outcomes, improve patient care, and enhance
overall efficiency within the realm of plastic and reconstructive surgery.
