Topic: Liver Cancer in

                                                          Alcoholic and Metabolic Liver

                                                          Diseases






                                                          It is my pleasure to present this special issue of
                                                          Hepatoma Research which focused on Liver Cancer in
                                                          Alcoholic and Metabolic Liver Diseases. As most are
                                                          aware, Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common
                                                          primary liver malignancy, and the incidence of this
                                                          condition is increasing worldwide. Most liver cancers
                                                          develop in the presence of underlying liver disease.
                                                          The emergence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease,
                                                          continuing high global rates of alcohol consumption
                                                          and the  high prevalence  of iron  overload  disease  in
                                                          Caucasian populations and their clear association with
                                                          hepatocellular carcinoma has focused attention on the
                                                          need  for  ongoing  research  in  the  field.  This  edition
