Topic: Liver Cancer in
Alcoholic and Metabolic Liver
Diseases
It is my pleasure to present this special issue of
Hepatoma Research which focused on Liver Cancer in
Alcoholic and Metabolic Liver Diseases. As most are
aware, Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common
primary liver malignancy, and the incidence of this
condition is increasing worldwide. Most liver cancers
develop in the presence of underlying liver disease.
The emergence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease,
continuing high global rates of alcohol consumption
and the high prevalence of iron overload disease in
Caucasian populations and their clear association with
hepatocellular carcinoma has focused attention on the
need for ongoing research in the field. This edition

I wish to thank each contributor for their fine work. I
highly recommend this issue of the journal.
